| Welcome to Retroville! It's 1958! | |||||||||||||||||
| Popularized by Jackie Kennedy, the bouffant hairdo really took off when Hollywood's glamour gals started flaunting the teased, combed, styled beehive confections. The bouffant's elegance highlighted the satin gowns of the early 60's creating a look that Hollywood couldn't resist. By 1965, the bouffant craze was starting to fade, but it would take another four or five years for it to fade into history. Bouffants made a comeback in the late 1990's as campy throwbacks for retro rock groups like the B-52s, on television shows like MadTV, and as the style to wear for female impersonators. While the look might be out, nobody can forget the glamourous era the bouffant represents. Of course, I'm not sure anyone wants to sit behind a bouffant-styled woman in any movie theatres! |

| Tina Louise as Ginger Grant on Gilligan's Island. Always the epitome of glamour, even as a castaway, Ginger wowed us weekly with her piled tresses teased, combed, and curled to perfection. But where on earth did Ginger get all the hairspray to do it?! |

| Barbara Eden as Jeannie from I Dream of Jeannie sports her glamour look for a date with Tony. Of course, the bouffant would probably still be popular if we could all just blink our eyes to style it instead of spending hours and three cans of hairspray! |
