In 1961, Bye Bye Birdie won the Tony Award for Best Musical. Opening on April 14, 1960, at the Martin Beck Theatre in New York, the show ran for 607 performances before the curtain came down.

The production would hit the silver screen under the same name in 1963 and, again, in 1995.

The Story:

Based on a book by Michael Stewart, the light-hearted plot centers around a young pop star, Conrad Birdie. Kim MacAfee of Sweet Apple, Ohio, is the lucky recipient of the dedication and, when the Ed Sullivan Show descends upon Sweet Apple for a live broadcast of Birdie performing his latest hit, pandemonium ensues.
