In 1960, The Avengers made its debut on television but began life as Police Surgeon. The British crime drama program began life with a totally different cast but, after several seasons of change, ended up with its perfect cast structure--Patrick MacNee as John Steed and Diana Rigg as Mrs. Emma Peel. The daring duo struck gold, captured hearts, and changed the character of crime dramas forever.
